Cats are quickly overtaking dogs as mans best friend. Cats are incredibly intelligent and built for agile maneuvering along any unusual environment you can imagine. Having such an awesome pet means that they are that much harder to keep entertained during their day. This article will provide only the most awesome techniques for entertaining the most awesome cats.

To help prevent tapeworm infestation in cats, feed a small amount of food grade diatomaceous earth for two weeks out of each month. About a quarter of a teaspoon per cat per day is adequate. Food grade diatomaceous earth kills internal parasites and causes them to be expelled from the system.

Cats are curious by nature, which can end up getting them into trouble. If your cat wears a collar they might get hurt, and stuck. A collar that is a breakaway model will detach itself if it gets pulled on. This can keep your cat alive.

Older cats will appreciate a heated bed; you can use a heated tile to create one! Put a square foot of terra cotta tile into your oven heated to 200 degrees. Keep the tile in the oven for about 15 minutes. Place it in an older towel and place it underneath of the feline’s bed. Change it out every few hours if you feel the need.

Get a pet water fountain. Cats can be prone to dehydration, and running water entices them to drink. It is an evolutionary habit that developed because in the wild, running water is less likely to be contaminated than a stagnant pool. Your pet will enjoy the water more, and will drink more often.

If your dog and cat are best friends, be sure to keep them separate after flea treatment. Your dog’s flea products are very hazardous for cats. Cats that come in contact with dog flea products often die. Be sure to use only cat products on your cat and only dog products on your dog.

Lessen the chances of your cat becoming harmed or killed by spraying all electric cords with something to keep them from chewing it. Bitter apple is a good choice and can be found at most pet stores. Cat can sometimes chew on cords, and they should be covered to prevent this. Use paper towel or wrapping paper rolls to bundle up cords. Cats are drawn to wires and cords, so you should keep them out of sight and out of mind if they are not being used.

Keep the litter box clean. Cats are naturally very clean animals, and a dirty litter box will have your cat looking for alternative places to relieve himself. Cats also value their privacy, so try to locate the box in an area that does not get a lot of foot traffic.

Having a hard time giving your cat a bath? Try this. Take an old window screen and put it in your sink or bathtub. Put your cat in, and he will claw the screen and stay there. Then start washing, but do don’t dilly dally. Use a cup to help you to pour warm water on your cat unless you have a movable shower head.

Why is your cat meowing? After you have lived with your cat for a while, you will come to know what she wants by her meow. She may be hungry, or she may want you to let her outside. Listen to what’s she’s trying to tell you, and you’ll begin to understand her cues.

Do not punish your cat if they make a mess in the area outside of the litter box. Most of the time when this happens, it is because you are not taking proper care of the box. Punishing your cat will make it afraid of being close to you.

Increase the variety of food that you give your cat. When you give the same thing day after day, it becomes boring.

Keep track of your feline friend by having the animal microchipped. This small device is implanted beneath the skin between your cat’s shoulder blades. Microchip implantation may sting for a few seconds, but the implant is otherwise unnoticeable and will not cause your pet any discomfort. This chip makes it easier for animal control to locate your cat if it goes missing.

It might seem like a little much for an animal, but you should comb your cat’s hair as often as possible. Combing the hair helps prevent the cat from licking loose fur and building a furball to spit up later. Different cats shed at different rates and some require a lot more maintenance than others.

If possible, clip your cat’s toenails once weekly. If the nails grow too long, your pet cannot retract the claws. This causes your pet to experience discomfort. Regular trimmings also prevent the claws from snagging carpet fibers, clothing, and other fabrics. If you cannot do this, you should at least provide scratching toys and posts for your cat.

Kittens should never be taken from their mothers before they are eight to ten weeks old. During this time, kittens learn most of their social and instinctive behaviors, and removing them from the mother too soon can cause future behavioral issues the mother cat could have taught them had they not been removed too early.

At least one of the above ideas should keep your cat entertained on those rainy nights. Try to work it as an activity the both of you can partake in. Playing games with your cat teaches it that the two of you can have an exciting time together while keeping it active and healthy.
